Women’s Health Services
Treatment of Women’s Health conditions and disorders requires a specialized understanding of female anatomy and the changes associated with aging, pregnancy, child birth and surgery.
All of our therapists are trained in the provision of a “hands on” approach in coordination with a specific exercise program. This unique approach helps patients, including those experiencing pain specific to women, progress towards self management of their symptoms and impairments effectively and efficiently.
Women’s Health Conditions treated at all Results clinics include:
• Pelvic Pain
• Pregnancy-Related Low Back Pain or Sciatica
• Fibromyalgia
• Post-Mastectomy Shoulder and Arm pain
• Post-Childbirth Recovery
In addition, Results Physiotherapy offers specialized physical therapy services focusing on disorders related to the pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor muscles are involved in supporting the bowel and bladder as well as the sexual/reproductive organs. Common symptoms associated with pelvic floor dysfunction include urinary incontinence and chronic pelvic pain.
A variety of disorders fall into these two categories. Generally, these conditions have either occurred secondary to weakness or injury to the pelvic floor musculature specifically. A patient may present with some predisposing factors including childbirth, pelvic surgeries, aging and obesity, which can contribute to these symptoms.
Other conditions related to pelvic floor dysfunction include:
• Interstitial Cystitis
• Dyspareunia(Pain with Intercourse)
• Urinary or Fecal Incontinence
• Vulvodynia or Vaginismus
A patient attending physical therapy for pelvic floor dysfunction would expect to receive treatment for their specific symptoms from a licensed physical therapist trained in pelvic floor rehabilitation. Each program is tailored to the patient to help re-train the muscle coordination of the pelvic floor and its relationship to the bladder, low back and hip structures as well as overall stability control. When indicated, surface biofeedback is used in the clinic to assist in the re-training process in conjunction with a home exercise program.
Results Physiotherapy clinics that currently offer assessment and treatment of pelvic floor disorders include: Hendersonville and West Nashville
