Belmont University PT Department

This course is an introduction to Maitland's principles for the assessment and treatment of the Cervical, Thoracic, and Lumbar spine. Principles of assessment & treatment are addressed in lab sessions and with "live" patient demonstrations. Management of the pain-dominant and the stiffness-dominant patient are performed using skilled manual techniques of joint mobilization and manipulation.

June 12-14th, 2009 - MT-R  MAPS Review Seminar
21 Hours Direct, 3 days, 2.4 CEUs,
Results Physiotherapy CoolSprings

Open to participants who have completed the MT1-4 series. This course is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, although it is NOT mandatory for COMT candidates. This course covers essential principles and concepts of the Maitland-Australian approach. It consists of 80% laboratory sessions review for many of the techniques for major peripheral and spinal joints in the body.

July 10-12th, 2009 - MT-5  Certification Course
Results Physiotherapy- Cool Springs

This course consists of multiple examination components (Pass/Fail) comprising:

Emphasis is on clinical decision making, advanced clinical practice, pathophysiology, clinical case presentations, safety in manual therapy, and general principles of Orthopedic Manual Therapy.  Pre-requisites include completion of MT1-MT4.

September 11-13th, 2009 - MT-2  Basic Spinal Seminar

21 Hours/2.5 CEUs
Results Physiotherapy Coolsprings
This course is an introduction to Maitland's principles for the assessment and treatment of the Cervical, Thoracic, and Lumbar spine. Principles of assessment & treatment are addressed in lab sessions and with "live" patient demonstrations. September 19th, 2009 - Anatomy Review Course
8 contact hours/.8 CEU’s
Vanderbilt University Anatomy Lab

This course is a one day review of human anatomy taught by Dr. John Halle PhD, PT, ECS, associate professor at Vanderbilt School of Medicine and Department of Physical Therapy Chair at Belmont University.  This course is taught in the Vanderbilt University state of the art human cadaver lab.  This lab utilizes the latest technology in computer projection and lighting for a unique learning experience.

October 2-4th,  2009 - MT-3 Intermediate Spinal Seminar
21 Hours/2.7 CEUs
Belmont University PT Department

This course is based on refinement and clarification of the subjective and physical examination and treatment of the Cervical, Thoracic, and Lumbar spine as a continuation from MT-2. MT-3 Includes: Movement Diagrams, Combined Movements, Modern Pain Theory, Cervicogenic Headaches, Whiplash, extensive Neurodynamics, VBI, Arterial Dissection, Upper Cervical Ligamentous Stability testing, Refinement of Passive accessory intervertebral tests, Skills in palpation especially feeling changes in resistance and response to mobilization. Included in this course are application and selection of techniques, progression of treatment, conversion of passive techniques into active exercises, neurological exams, case histories, "live" patient demonstrations and introduction to Grade IV/V Cervical Spinal Mobilization.

Summer 2009 (date pending) - Selective Functional Movement Assessment

This course is taught by Mike Voight PT, DHSc, SCS, OCS, ATC, professor of physical therapy at Belmont University Physical Therapy School.  It is based on functional movement screening tests for the upper and lower quarters with a specific procedural flow for a breakdown of movement dysfunction.  This course emphasizes the effect of movement dysfunction in non painful areas and its influence on painful movement.

April 2010 (Date changed from Sept 2009) - Anatomy Review Course
8 contact hours/.8 CEU’s
Vanderbilt University Anatomy Lab

This course is a one day review of human anatomy taught by Dr. John Halle PhD, PT, ECS, associate professor at Vanderbilt School of Medicine and Department of Physical Therapy Chair at Belmont University. The course focus will be clinical application of anatomy, testing the therapist’s knowledge base and ability to identify specific anatomical structures. There will be a significant focus on case studies, case presentations and anatomical relationships of interest for the manual therapist. This course is taught in the Vanderbilt University state of the art human cadaver lab.  This lab utilizes the latest technology in computer projection and lighting for a unique learning experience.

October 2-4th,  2009 - MT-3 Intermediate Spinal Seminar
(21 Hours/2.7 CEUs)

August 22-23, 2009 - Selective Functional Movement Assessment

This course is taught by Mike Voight PT, DHSc, SCS, OCS, ATC, professor of physical therapy at Belmont University Physical Therapy School.  It is based on functional movement screening tests for the upper and lower quarters with a specific procedural flow for a breakdown of movement dysfunction.  This course emphasizes the effect of movement dysfunction in non painful areas and its influence on painful movement.

November 13-15th, 2009 MT-1 Basic Peripheral Course
(21 Hours/2.5 CEUs)

This course is an introduction to Australian Manual Therapy, focusing on effective assessment and treatment of the Peripheral joints. Individual supervised laboratory instruction is stressed. Subjective and physical examination, and methods of treatment for the Shoulder (Gleno/Humeral, Scapulo/Thoracic, Acromo/Clavicular, Sterno/Clavicular) Elbow Complex, Wrist, Hand, Hip, Knee Complex, Ankle-foot complex using joint mobilization will be taught.

January 29-31st, 2010
MT-ST Stabilization Training for Spine, Shoulder, Knee and Ankle
(21 Hours/2.6 CEUs)

This BRAND NEW course should be taken after MT-3 but may be taken by any participant as an elective outside of the regular continuum series of courses leading to COMT Certification. The course incorporates the latest in EBM from worldwide sources. The information is presented in a format to allow participants to evaluate the quality of the underlying research supporting each of the different major studies and thus the different philosophies of spinal stabilization. The course allows the participant to critically evaluate the different theories and determine how best to incorporate the information into real patient situations. The course emphasizes clinical decision making skills in to determine the use of exercise and motor control strategies as part of overall patient management. Extensive laboratory sessions allow ample time to practice major stabilization approaches for the Cervical and Lumbar Spine, Shoulder, Knee and Ankle Joints. Includes an extensive Pre-reading and 50% Laboratory.

March 19-21, 2010 MT-4 Differential Assessment and Clinical Reasoning
(21 Hours/2.8 CEUs)

MT-4 is a continuation of MT-3 at the Intermediate level of manual therapy. Emphasis is on clinical reasoning & assessment processes from MT-1 through MT-3. Differential assessment of the Cervical/Shoulder/Thoracic and Lumbo/Pelvic/Hip regions are taught & practiced. Other focuses include: pathological patterns of spinal and pelvic girdle dysfunction, the hypomobile SI joint, and treatment techniques for the spine, hips, shoulder girdle, and pelvic girdle.
